The Volkswagen Group announced worldwide deliveries of 9.03 million vehicles in 2024, a year that CEO Oliver Blume described as challenging.
This figure represents a decline of approximately 2.3% compared to 2023, with the sharpest drop occurring in China, the automaker’s largest market, where deliveries fell 9.5% to reach 2.93 million vehicles.
North America experienced a growth of 6.4%, with 1.06 million vehicles delivered in 2024, while South America saw the most significant increase, with deliveries rising 14.7% to around 594,300 vehicles. In the United States, VW Group reported a delivery growth of about 2%.
Over the past decade, the VW Group consistently ranked as the world’s largest automaker by volume, achieving a total of 10.74 million vehicles in 2017. However, increased competition from relative new entrants like Tesla and various Chinese brands has resulted in a decrease in VW Group’s market share.
Among individual brands, Volkswagen stood out as the largest, with deliveries totaling 4.8 million vehicles, a decrease of about 1.4% from the previous year. Audi followed, recording a delivery drop of 11.8% to 1.67 million.
The lowest-performing brand was Bentley, which saw its deliveries decline by 21.5%, totaling 10,600 vehicles for the year; this downturn is largely attributed to customers deferring purchases in anticipation of the new Continental GT and Flying Spur models, which were revealed last year and are expected to begin deliveries this year.
Many brands within the VW Group, including Porsche, faced declines last year. Porsche’s deliveries fell approximately 3%, closing the year at 310,700 vehicles. The largest growth, at 23.6%, was recorded by Volkswagen Truck & Bus, with deliveries for the year reaching 45,800 vehicles. The top-performing passenger vehicle brand was SEAT/Cupra, whose deliveries increased by 7.5% to 558,200 vehicles.
Deliveries of VW Group’s electric vehicles also showed a slight decline in 2024, totaling 744,800 vehicles across all brands, which is a 3.4% decrease from the prior year. Nonetheless, the automaker reported a positive shift in its EV deliveries during the fourth quarter, particularly in China. The most popular EVs were the ID.4 and the ID.5 coupe-like model, with VW Group recording approximately 182,000 deliveries in 2024.
