Just when it seemed that the trend of new cars priced below $20,000 was behind us, Nissan reveals it will continue the production of the Versa subcompact sedan for at least another model year.
The 2025 Nissan Versa maintains its modest 122-hp 1.6-liter inline-4 engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive. The starting price for the base S model is $18,330, which includes a $1,140 destination charge. Many buyers are likely to opt for the continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), raising the starting price of the base S to $20,130. This CVT upgrade enhances fuel efficiency, increasing it from 30 mpg to 35 mpg combined, meaning the additional cost can be justified by lower fuel expenses throughout the vehicle’s lifespan.
With the discontinuation of the Kia Rio and the Mitsubishi Mirage, the Versa stands as the sole new car available for under $20,000. The next least expensive option is the 2025 Chevy Trax crossover, priced at $21,495.
Nissan has enhanced its 3-year/36,000-mile warranty this year by including three complimentary oil changes during the first two years or 24,000 miles of ownership. Additionally, the 2025 Versa now features LED headlights.
The 2025 Nissan Versa comes well-appointed with automatic emergency braking at both the front and rear, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warnings, and automatic high beams. It rolls on 15-inch steel wheels and includes cloth seats, power windows and locks, cruise control, and a 7.0-inch touchscreen. An S Plus package can be added to the base model, featuring desirable extras such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, 16-inch alloy wheels, and a 60/40-split rear seat for $1,190.
The Nissan Versa SV, priced at $21,630, includes these features along with automatic headlights, keyless start, a center console with armrests, satellite radio, and a wireless smartphone charger.
At the top of the range, the Versa SR is available for $22,330, featuring 17-inch wheels and stylish blacked-out trim pieces. It also includes a leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated front seats, adaptive cruise control, and an 8.0-inch touchscreen.
