Confirmation from Mazda in a press release on Tuesday revealed that the 2025 Mazda CX-5 compact crossover will debut in the U.S. with a starting price of $29,990.
This new starting price represents a $685 decrease compared to the previous year’s model, which had spiked by $2,600 in 2024 due to the omission of the CX-5 S base trim variant. While the CX-5 S is making a return for 2025, it has not completely offset the previous price surge. Moreover, the destination fee has also increased by $45, now amounting to $1,420.
Besides reintroducing the CX-5 S base model, Mazda made adjustments to various trim levels and removed the S Premium tier. As a result, the lineup now consists of S Select, S Preferred, S Carbon Edition, S Premium Plus, Carbon Turbo, Turbo Premium, and Turbo Signature trims.
2025 Mazda CX-5
The 2025 Mazda CX-5 will maintain its existing powertrain options, unlike the 2025 Mazda CX-50, which will receive a new hybrid powertrain sourced from Toyota. The standard equipment for the CX-5 includes a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter inline-4 engine generating 187 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque, while an optional 2.5-liter turbo-4 engine produces 227 hp and 310 lb-ft (256 hp and 320 lb-ft with 93 octane fuel). Both engines are paired with all-wheel drive and a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Anticipate no changes in fuel efficiency, with non-turbo models maintaining a maximum combined rating of 28 mpg (26 mpg city, 30 mpg highway). These models are equipped with an engine stop/start system and cylinder deactivation.
Standard safety features include blind-spot monitors, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and active lane control.
Standard convenience features encompass a 10.3-inch touchscreen offering Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a four-speaker audio system, dual front USB-C ports, and adjustable rear seats. Cloth upholstery is standard for the base CX-5 S model.
Priced at $31,320, the S Select model is $645 more than its 2024 equivalent. Addition of features like auto-leveling headlights, synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats, power-adjustable driver’s seat, 6-speaker audio, and rear-seat passenger vents with dual USB-A ports sets it apart.
For $32,670, the S Preferred version is $645 more than its 2024 counterpart and includes a sunroof, power tailgate, leather upholstery, auto-dimming rearview mirrors, a power-adjustable front passenger seat, and a driver-side memory system.
The S Carbon Edition, priced at $34,020 (up by $495 from the prior year), offers visual enhancements such as a Polymetal Gray paint choice, 19-inch black alloy wheels, and the option of black or red leather upholstery. It also features a 10-speaker audio system and wireless phone charging for 2025.
At $36,620, the S Premium Plus model is $1,255 cheaper than last year’s edition and represents the highest trim level with a naturally aspirated engine. New for 2025, it introduces a surround-view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, a drive-mode selector, cooled front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel and exterior mirrors, and built-in navigation.
For all turbo models, pricing remains unchanged compared to equivalent 2024 models, excluding the higher destination fee this year. The Carbon Turbo starts at $38,420 and offers terracotta leather upholstery, black synthetic suede inserts with terracotta stitching, and is available in Zircon Sand Metallic and Rhodium White color options.
Priced at $39,220, the Turbo Premium model enhances the features of the S Premium Plus with added traffic jam assist functionality.
Lastly, the Turbo Signature is priced at $42,020 and features enhanced exterior trim, nappa leather, and ambient lighting for a luxurious experience.
