Introduced last year, the NX by Lexus underwent a redesign that brought forth the NX 450h+, a variant recognized for its efficiency due to an electric-only capability along with remarkable velocity. Built on the same foundation as the plug-in hybrid Toyota RAV4 Prime, this model incorporates a 2.5-liter four-cylinder motor and a hybrid mechanism, producing a collective 302 horsepower. Equipped with all-wheel drive, it provides an electric-only range of 37 miles, slightly less than the 42 miles offered by the RAV4 Prime.
Charging is notably efficient, taking a mere four and a half hours when utilizing a Level 2 240-volt charger along with the standard 3.3-kW onboard charger. This duration reduces to two and a half hours by opting for the 6.6-kW charger.
The NX 450h+ presents a distinct advantage over alternative trim variants in terms of performance. It achieves a swift 0-60 mph acceleration in 6.0 seconds, a notable improvement compared to the NX 250 AWD and NX 350h AWD, which reach 60 mph in 8.6 and 7.2 seconds, respectively. Moreover, it offers a more enhanced ride and suspension setup, prioritizing comfort over sportiness when compared to other NX editions.
Internally, the 450h+ features an updated infotainment system with a modern 14.0-inch touchscreen display as a standard provision, replacing the previous 9.8-inch screen. Despite this advancement, the digital instrument cluster might not align with contemporary design trends and operating the steering wheel controls may pose a challenge. The vehicle is also equipped with wireless charging functionality; however, its design is not flawless as it results in iPhones frequently losing connectivity.
Priced at $57,705 to start, the 2023 Lexus NX 450h+ endeavors to establish a strong foothold in the plug-in hybrid market by offering an extended electric range and heightened power, catering to individuals who hold a strong interest in hybrid vehicles.
