Stellantis is initiating a recall for specific 2025 Ram 1500 pickup trucks due to potential damage in components that could compromise stability control, an essential safety feature that aids in preventing skidding and loss of control. If compromised, this system makes it easier for drivers to lose command of their vehicles.
The recall affects 33,777 pickups, though Stellantis has informed the NHTSA that it estimates that only about 1% may actually have the defect. The issue stems from a damaged front wheel bearing encoder ring, which can result in a loss of wheel-speed signal to the stability control system. Wheel speed information is critical for the stability control system to ascertain whether an intervention is needed to avert a collision.
The vehicles in question were produced between October 13, 2023, and August 11, 2024, during a period when improper handling processes for parts may have led to damage to the front wheel bearing encoders before the assembly of the vehicles, according to Stellantis.
Dealers will conduct inspections of the front wheel bearing hub assembly and will replace it at no cost if necessary. Stellantis will also reimburse owners who may have incurred expenses for this service before the recall announcement. Information regarding the reimbursement process will be included in letters sent to owners on December 19.
Owners seeking further details can reach out to Stellantis customer service at 1-800-853-1403 or visit the automaker’s recall website here. The reference number for this recall from Stellantis is 97B.
This recall is not connected to a prior stability control recall affecting 1.2 million Ram trucks that was announced in September, which was due to a software problem in 2021-2024 Ram 1500 pickups. The 2025 model represents a significant update, showcasing a new design, advanced technology features, and a twin-turbo V-6 engine that replaces the longtime Hemi V-8.
