Stellantis is recalling 31,676 RAM pickup trucks due to the possibility that the side mirror glass may detach, as disclosed by the NHTSA on Monday.
This recall pertains to 2020-2023 Ram 1500 Classic models. The term “Classic” refers to the earlier generation of the Ram 1500, which continued to be offered alongside the redesigned version that launched with the 2019 model year. Both versions have since been replaced by the updated 2025 Ram 1500, which integrates new technologies and a twin-turbo V-6 engine while retaining the original model’s framework.
The NHTSA indicates that Classic models equipped with heated trailer tow side mirrors may have driver-side glass that can come loose. This issue violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, which mandates that vehicles must be equipped with driver-side exterior rearview mirrors. A lack of rear visibility can heighten the chances of a crash, the NHTSA warns.
Stellantis has estimated that approximately 5% of the vehicles subject to this recall might possess the defect, which arises from the glass not being securely attached to the backing plate during assembly. While models not involved in the recall share a similar mirror assembly design, Stellantis does not believe their exterior mirrors were incorrectly put together.
Dealers are set to replace the mirror glass at no cost. Furthermore, Stellantis will reimburse customers who have already paid for this service prior to the recall announcement. Those who qualify can submit a receipt or other proof of payment to the company for reimbursement.
Stellantis plans to send out owner notification letters by December 5. Owners can reach out to the automaker’s customer service at 1-800-853-1403 or visit its recall website for additional information. The recall has been assigned Stellantis reference number 86B.
