Recaro Automotive has established itself as a leading supplier of car seats, especially for performance vehicles. However, the German firm encountered significant difficulties earlier this year, ultimately filing for bankruptcy protection in July.
Fast forward to now, and a new investor has emerged, aiming to assume control of the company. As reported by Piston Heads on December 4, an Italian automotive supplier known as Proma Group has entered into an investment agreement with Recaro Automotive to take over operations and recommence production by early next year.
During this transition, Proma Group plans to keep several personnel from Recaro Automotive’s original sales and technology teams at their headquarters located in Kirchheim unter Teck, Germany. Reports indicate that Recaro Automotive has around 215 employees based at the German facility, which includes a manufacturing plant.
Proma Group is also a prominent manufacturer of car seats and runs 26 facilities across three continents, with plans to shift some of Recaro Automotive’s production to its plants in Italy.
The acquisition by Proma does not impact Recaro’s operations in North America and Japan. Additionally, Recaro’s other divisions, including those focused on seats for aviation, office use, gaming, and baby seats, will remain unaffected.
“Our investment in Recaro Automotive will strengthen our ability to deliver a premium seating product while embracing the most cutting-edge innovations in the automotive sector,” stated Luca Pino, CEO of Proma Group.
