The 2.0-liter turbo-4 engine, which delivers the exciting performance of “N Grin Shifts” from Hyundai’s N division to various models within the lineup, including the Genesis G70, might experience a faulty fuel pump leading to the engine entering a reduced performance mode.
Announced by the NHTSA on Monday, the recall affects a total of 54,647 Hyundai N and Genesis G70 vehicles, with the majority of affected models being the Genesis G70. The affected models are:
The fuel pump’s control valve may prematurely wear out, leading to a failure that allows excess fuel into the pump. This results in a rich air/fuel mixture, causing power loss during driving, particularly at low speeds. Signs of this issue may include reduced power output, rough idling, engine misfires, and/or the illumination of the check engine light.
Over a five-year period, Hyundai has received reports of 2,460 cases related to this recall in the U.S., though no accidents or injuries have been reported as a result of the problem.
Affected vehicle owners will receive notification via mail by September 9, 2024, prompting them to visit a Hyundai/Genesis service center for a software update at minimum. Vehicles with the malfunction indicator illuminated may require a complimentary replacement of the high-pressure fuel pump by Hyundai. While most of the recalled vehicles are still covered by warranty, Hyundai has stated that it may offer reimbursement in cases where the repair was paid for out of the owner’s pocket.
