The 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe is currently under recall for both its gas and hybrid models due to potential airbag issues. Airbags may not activate or may set off inadvertently in the recalled vehicles. If you detect any irregularities, it is recommended to bring your vehicle to a service center promptly.

A significant number, approximately 50,000 units, of the newly redesigned 2024 Santa Fe SUV has been recalled by Hyundai for a possible airbag system malfunction, as disclosed by the NHTSA on Monday.

This recall pertains to the 2024 model, impacting both the gas (40,144 units) and hybrid (9,575 units) versions. The recall is inclusive of most, if not all, new Santa Fe models produced between late last year and the end of July. The midsize Santa Fe expanded into the three-row segment this year, adding to Hyundai’s lineup of three-row vehicles alongside the larger Hyundai Palisade.

The popular three-row crossover SUV could have a primary floor wiring structure that may become entangled in the folding assembly of the second-row bench seat. Should the wiring structure become entangled in the seat mechanism, it could result in harm or complete disconnection of the airbag deployment system. Issues that may arise include the airbag warning light illumination, unwarranted airbag deployment, or failure of airbags to deploy in a crash scenario.

Hyundai has acknowledged eight reported incidents of this issue occurring in the 2024 Santa Fe. While there have been no reported accidents or injuries associated with the recall, the automaker is taking precautionary measures.

A notification will be sent out to owners via mail as early as Sept. 23, with instructions to bring their Santa Fe in for necessary repairs, although the remedy has already been made available. If the wiring harness beneath the second-row passenger seat is damaged, it will be replaced. Otherwise, service technicians will utilize zip ties to securely fasten it to its anchor point. If you notice any damage, it is advised to promptly contact a dealership for resolution.
