Honda is issuing a recall for 294,612 sedans and SUVs from its primary brand as well as its Acura luxury line due to a software problem that might result in engine stalling or loss of power.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the electronic control units (ECUs) in the recalled vehicles may contain incorrect fuel-injection programming. Under specific driving circumstances, like an abrupt application of the throttle, this could potentially lead to a power reduction, stuttering, or stalling because of an improper fuel supply to the engine.
An imbalance in fuel delivery—either too much or too little—can disrupt the essential air-to-fuel ratio needed for optimal combustion, impeding the engine’s performance. If this occurs, drivers may experience a sudden loss of acceleration, accompanied by a warning light on the dashboard.
This recall affects the following vehicle models:
As of January 16, Honda informed the NHTSA that it had received 674 warranty claims concerning this issue across all three affected models, although it reported no incidents of injuries or crashes. The automaker was alerted to the issue by Denso, the supplier of the ECUs in these vehicles.
The solution involves reprogramming the ECU software, and this service will be provided by dealers at no cost to owners. Additionally, those who have already covered repair costs themselves will be eligible for reimbursement.
Honda plans to mail notification letters to owners on March 17. For further information, owners can reach out to Honda’s customer service at 1-888-234-2138 or access the automaker’s recall hub. The reference codes for this recall are AL0 for the Pilot and EL1 for the MDX and TLX models.
The MDX and Pilot will see some updates in 2025, including the introduction of a new Black Edition trim for the Pilot and a comprehensive refresh for the MDX. The TLX sedan, however, will remain unchanged following its refresh for the 2024 model year.
