Honda is initiating a recall of around 720,000 vehicles in the United States due to potential defects in their fuel pumps.
The defective fuel pumps were produced with faulty cores that could lead to cracks inside the pump as a result of the high fuel pressure, according to Honda. These cracks could expand sufficiently to cause fuel leaks, representing a potential fire hazard, and drivers may detect a fuel odor while the vehicle is idling or in motion.
To address the issue, owners will need to visit a dealership where the high-pressure fuel pumps in the affected vehicles will undergo inspection and, if needed, will be replaced at no cost.
The following Honda models are included in the recall:
- 2023-2024 Honda Accord and Honda Accord Hybrid
- 2025 Honda Civic sedan and Honda Civic Hybrid sedan
- 2023-2025 Honda CR-V Hybrid
Among those listed, the compact Civic is receiving a mid-cycle refresh for 2025, reintroducing the Civic Hybrid. Honda continues to offer the Civic as a hatchback with both traditional and hybrid options; however, these specific models do not seem to be impacted by the recall.
Just the week prior, Honda announced a recall involving 1.7 million vehicles in the U.S. from both its main Honda brand and the premium Acura brand due to a steering box problem that may create a “sticky” steering sensation. Some models from this recall overlap with those of the current recall, but it remains unclear if owners can resolve both matters in a single dealership visit due to the differing timelines of each recall.
Vehicle owners can expect to receive notification letters by December. They are also encouraged to reach out to Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138 or visit the automaker’s recall site for further details.
