The Ford Maverick is facing another recall.
In the ongoing series of Ford recalls, the 2022-2024 Maverick has emerged as the latest model affected. Ford has announced a recall affecting 144,516 trucks due to an issue where the backup camera display can freeze.
According to Ford, this frozen image on the infotainment screen while in reverse could create a misleading view of the vehicle’s position in relation to its surroundings.
This malfunction has the potential to increase the risk of a crash or, even more concerning, to inadvertently back over an object or person.
The underlying problem, as explained by Ford, involves inadequate memory management in the software, leading to a failure in a component within the image processing system.
Ford has acknowledged two incidents connected to this issue, although there have been no reported injuries.
Dealerships were informed of the situation on September 16, and notification letters to customers are set to be sent out starting September 30.
Customers will need to bring their Mavericks to a Ford dealership for a complimentary software update of the vehicle’s touchscreen infotainment system.
The recall affects vehicles manufactured between February 3, 2021, and November 28, 2023.
Owners can reach out to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or contact Ford’s customer service at 1-866-436-7332, referring to NHTSA recall campaign number 24V-684.
