McLaren has revealed its latest GTS model, crafted to take over from the GT. The GTS delivers exceptional driving dynamics and performance, while also ensuring comfort, sophistication, and ample storage capacity for daily use and long journeys.
“The new McLaren GTS offers an unparalleled mix of McLaren driving dynamics and performance, coupled with sophistication and functionality. When seeking an authentic supercar driving experience, the GTS delivers precisely that; when looking to unwind on an extended journey or carry luggage for a weekend getaway, the GTS is the perfect companion. This car stays true to McLaren’s racing DNA but with multiple layers of capability.” Michael Leiters, CEO, McLaren Automotive
While preserving McLaren’s iconic design and power-to-weight ratio, the new GTS comes with enhanced visual appeal and a wider array of exterior and interior choices.
The graceful exterior design of the GT serves as the base for the GTS’ aerodynamic package and overall look, but with refreshed visual enhancements for a more assertive appearance. At the front, the GTS boasts a redesigned lower front bumper section with more prominent air intakes, while the rear fenders feature new, taller air scoops to allow increased airflow into the car’s engine.
The McLaren GTS is constructed using the carbon fiber MonoCell II-T monocoque chassis, specially designed for mid-engine supercars. The recycled carbon fiber composite roof helps reduce weight while maintaining performance and comfort. These design decisions contribute to a lightweight driving experience without compromising ride quality or creating excessive noise, harshness, and vibration.
Weighing in at just 3,351lbs (DIN), the GTS stands as the lightest car in its category, boasting a segment-leading power-to-weight ratio of 412bhp-per-ton. The V8 M840TE 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged engine now pumps out 626bhp at 7,500rpm, an increase of 14bhp achieved through enhanced crankshaft torque from more aggressive combustion phasing and adjusted ignition timing. The car is equipped with launch control for impressive acceleration.
The GTS achieves 0-60mph in a mere 3.1 seconds and 0-124mph in just 8.9 seconds when launch control is engaged. The top speed of the GTS is 203mph.
Equipped with a seven-speed SSG transmission, the GTS offers smooth, seamless, and rapid shifts in default Comfort mode, delivering both relaxing and quick acceleration from start-up. Additionally, drivers can enhance their supercar experience with two additional driving modes – Sport and Track – via the Active Dynamics Panel. Sport mode provides heightened drama and urgency, with faster and more aggressive gearshifts using momentary ignition-spark-cut technology. Track mode optimizes gearbox performance with minimal torque loss between shifts, taking performance to the peak. Manual gearshift control is possible through steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters in all drive modes.
In line with the GTS’ inherent practicality is an interior designed to blend performance with a refined and luxurious space. It offers a comfortable cabin for long journeys and a platform for drivers to fully exploit the car’s exceptional dynamic capabilities.
The interior of the McLaren GTS incorporates premium materials to create an ambience of both performance and luxury. It features machine-polished and knurled aluminum switches and controls, gloss black surrounds for various elements, and optional visual carbon fiber packs.
Standard Comfort seats in the GTS come with Nappa leather trim, along with a leather-trimmed steering wheel. Moreover, Performance and TechLux interior schemes provide refined design options for the seats.
McLaren GTS introduces new exterior paint choices like Mantis Green, Tanzanite Blue, and Ice White, along with an exclusive color named Lava Grey that boasts a shimmering red fleck for a distinctive visual impact.
The McLaren GTS now offers a new 10-spoke Turbine lightweight forged alloy wheel in multiple finishes, along with standard 10-twin-spoke forged alloy wheel options and optional titanium locking wheel bolts to reduce unsprung mass. It is also fitted with Pirelli P ZERO™ tires specifically developed for the GTS, delivering high performance and exceptional grip.
