At the 1972 Geneva Motor Show, Ferrari unveiled a convertible version of the Dino 246 known as the GTS. About 1200 units were produced during a two-year span. The 246 GTS came with a detachable roof panel reminiscent of the one seen in the 1967 Porsche 911 Targa. Both cars drew inspiration from the Surrey-Top Triumph TR4, which pioneered the use of such a panel.
The Dino series was established as a tribute to Alfredo Ferrari, Enzo Ferrari’s son, who championed the V6 engine before his untimely death. It commenced with a series of 206 sport prototypes and evolved into the 246 road cars.
The 1974 Ferrari 246 Dino GTS ‘Chairs & Flares’ by Scaglietti Motorcar Studios is a vehicle that notably stands out due to its distinctive attributes. Enthusiasts are intrigued by the “Chairs and Flares” that enhance the car’s desirability. The “Chairs” feature showcases unique seats inspired by Ferrari’s V-12-powered GTB/4 Daytona, featuring leather racing-style buckets with striking inserts in a different hue. In addition, the “Flares” option offers Group 4-style flared wheel arches that give the Dino a more assertive look while preserving its refined lines.
The ‘Chairs and Flares’ package came with special 7.5-inch-wide magnesium alloy cast Campagnolo wheels exclusive to this model. Each feature could be individually ordered, making vehicles equipped with both “Chairs & Flares” exceedingly rare and highly coveted. It is believed that fewer than 150 GTS models were produced with both features, placing them at the zenith of Dino production. The 1974 Ferrari 246 Dino GTS ‘Chairs & Flares’ by Scaglietti Motorcar Studios is offered in various dimensions.
