Over 142,000 recent Ram 1500 light-duty pickup trucks and 2500, 3500, and 4500/5500 heavy-duty trucks have been recalled by Ram due to turn indicators that can unintentionally trigger the high-beam headlights, or high-beam headlights that can activate the turn indicator, according to the NHTSA’s announcement on Monday. Additionally, the turn signal may not deactivate automatically as intended when the steering wheel is turned.
Ram suspects a potential short-circuit in the steering column control module or a deficiency in the circuit board’s manufacturing specifications.
Using the turn signal and inadvertently activating the high beams could potentially confuse or briefly blind approaching traffic. Should the high beams be on and the indicator is accidentally triggered, it may cause confusion for the driver and any bystanders witnessing the unusual occurrence. In case the turn signal remains activated after completing a turn, it might lead to confusion among other drivers, as reported by the NHTSA.
Dealers have received a stop-sale order for the affected vehicles included in the recall:
- 2023 Ram 1500 Classic
- 2023 Ram 3500 Classic and 3500 Cab Chassis
- 2023-2024 Ram 2500 and 3500
- 2023-2024 Ram 4500/5500 Cab Chassis
Owners will receive notification by mail before Jan. 17 to schedule an inspection of their trucks at a dealership. If required, the steering column control module will be replaced by dealers at no expense to the owners. Those who have already paid for the module repair can seek reimbursement with a valid receipt.
