Around 24,000 Chrysler Pacifica hybrid vans are being recalled by the manufacturer. The problem is linked to an irregularity in the battery cells, which has the potential to result in a fire outbreak. To address this issue, a software update is being introduced initially, with owners being advised to park outdoors and avoid charging their vans.
Stellantis has taken action to recall approximately 24,000 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid plug-in hybrid vans due to a fire hazard caused by battery cell complications.
According to reports by Reuters, Stellantis has recommended owners to park their vehicles outside, away from buildings, and refrain from charging them until a software update is released to resolve the problem associated with the abnormality in the battery cells.

The recall impacts Pacifica Hybrid vans from model years 2017 to 2021, consisting of roughly 19,500 units in the U.S., around 3,000 in Canada, and 1,700 outside of North America. Introduced as a 2017 model, the Pacifica Hybrid is a plug-in hybrid variant of the Pacifica van, which is the sole Chrysler-branded vehicle available in the U.S.
Reports suggest that Stellantis has acknowledged seven incidents associated with this problem, occurring when the vans were not in use or, in certain situations, during charging. Four customers have reported symptoms indicative of smoke inhalation. Stellantis believes the risk of fire is reduced when the battery charge is low.

Stellantis is actively working on a software update to detect the battery anomaly identified as the primary cause of this issue. Customers will be notified when the update is available, along with instructions to bring their vans to authorized dealerships for battery pack inspections and potential replacements, all at no cost.
Vans from model years 2017 and 2018 had previously faced a recall due to another fire-related problem in 2022, with a software correction released later that year. In the subsequent year, Stellantis recalled all Pacifica Hybrids made thus far for a loss of engine power issue. This concern was also resolved through a software update.
