BMW has initiated a recall of numerous latest models manufactured from the year 2023 to 2024 due to a potential reduction in braking performance that could heighten the chances of an accident, as revealed by the NHTSA on Monday.
Some vehicles may experience a malfunction in the power braking assist feature, leading to an unexpected increase in stopping distance. Additionally, this issue could result in the malfunction of the antilock braking system and electronic stability control system. The absence of these systems may impact the vehicle’s handling and stability.
While the conventional mechanical brakes continue to function properly, the affected vehicles are capable of stopping. However, drivers accustomed to the brake assist function working in conjunction with the mechanical brakes may be caught off guard by a decrease in the sensation of the brake pedal.
The recall pertains to a total of 79,670 units across the following models:
- 2024 BMW 530i
- 2023-2024 BMW 740i and 760i
- 2024 BMW 750e
- 2024 BMW i5
- 2023-2024 BMW i7, i7 M70
- 2023 BMW X1
- 2024 BMW X5
- 2024 BMW X6
- 2023-2024 BMW X7
- 2023-2024 BMW XM
- 2024 Rolls-Royce Spectre
Aside from a potential increase in braking distance, drivers may observe a warning indicator or error notification on the instrument panel.
Affected owners and lessees will receive a notification through mail by April 5 urging them to bring their vehicles to a BMW or Rolls-Royce service center for a replacement of the integrated brake system. This service will be provided free of charge since the vehicles are still under warranty.
