Debuting at retailers presently, the reimagined 2025 Nissan Kicks commences at a price of $23,220, inclusive of a $1,390 destination charge, as per Nissan’s Tuesday announcement.
The next-generation compact crossover is priced $490 higher than the 2024 model, emerging as the gateway to the brand alongside the Sentra as the Nissan Versa subcompact is set to be phased out. The conclusion of the Versa marks the end of the line for the Kia Rio and the unique exit of the Mitsubishi Mirage, with no new vehicles priced below $20,000 in the U.S. market.
Responding to consumer preferences, automakers like Nissan are replacing economical yet less favored subcompact cars and hatchbacks with compact crossovers like the Nissan Kicks and the 2025 Chevy Trax. The Trax, priced at $21,495, stands out as the most affordable new vehicle and the preferred budget option in our 2024 tests.
The upgraded 2025 Kicks outshines the Trax with a feature that the Chevy doesn’t offer: optional all-wheel drive. Enhanced in size, roominess, design, and power for 2025, the new Kicks boasts a 2.0-liter inline-4 engine generating 141 hp and 140 lb-ft of torque. Teamed with a CVT that powers the front wheels, AWD can be added for $1,500 on S and SR trims, and for $1,650 on the popular SV trim.
Nissan replaces a torsion beam axle with a multilink rear suspension on AWD models, enhancing its ability to handle horizontal and vertical motions more effectively. The new model grows both in physical dimensions and practicality, featuring notably increased ground clearance (8.4 inches) compared to its predecessor (7.0 inches), along with being 2.7 inches longer and boasting a 1.5-inch longer wheelbase. It is also wider and taller, leading to augmented passenger and cargo space.
Each Kicks model comes generously equipped with features like automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitors, lane departure warnings, and automatic high beams. In addition to the 3-year/36,000-mile warranty, the vehicle includes complimentary scheduled maintenance for two years or 24,000 miles.
The entry-level $23,200 Kicks S comes with a range of standard features including dual 7.0-inch displays, a USB-A port, fabric seats, keyless ignition, and 16-inch steel wheels.
Opting for the SV trim will set you back $25,070, but the enhancements bring a more contemporary feel, showcasing a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Additional features consist of Bluetooth connectivity, a wireless charging pad for smartphones, and automatic locking. An optional SV Premium package priced at $1,500 offers perks such as heated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, roof rails, and several other features. It rides on 17-inch steel wheels.
At the premium end, the 2025 Kicks SR leads the pack at $27,560 ($29,070 with AWD). Featuring accent stitching on synthetic leather seats, ambient lighting, automatic climate control, 17-inch alloy wheels, a surround-view camera system, and a limited hands-free driving system. It also offers adaptive cruise control and can be further upgraded with the $1,950 SR Premium package, which adds a heated steering wheel, Bose sound system, and remote start functionality.
