Mercedes-Benz is working on a refreshed CLA-Class that is set to debut next year as a 2026 model in the United States. This new iteration of the compact sedan will feature options for both hybrid and fully electric powertrains.

A recent sighting included a prototype of the hybrid variant, while our latest images capture the electric version. Additionally, a high-performance AMG variant of the electric CLA-Class is currently undergoing testing.

The design of the forthcoming CLA-Class was foreshadowed by last year’s Concept CLA-Class. Anticipated elements from the concept that may transition into production include a pattern of Mercedes star logos integrated into the headlights and taillights, as well as a dashboard characterized by a broad panel that consolidates displays for both a digital gauge cluster and an infotainment system, complemented by circular vents for climate control.

Mercedes is also putting a prototype of a revamped GLB-Class through its testing phases. In addition to this, a redesigned GLA-Class compact crossover and a new iteration of the CLA-Class Shooting Brake wagon are in the works. However, plans for new generations of the A-Class sedan and hatchback, along with the B-Class minivan, are not in the pipeline.

The upcoming Mercedes compact vehicles will be constructed on an innovative platform referred to as MMA. In terms of electric vehicles, this platform will provide options for a single-motor rear-wheel-drive or dual-motor all-wheel-drive setups. The rear motor is expected to generate 268 hp, while the front motor, which engages during high demand or loss of traction, will offer 107 hp.

Equipped with an 800-volt electrical system, the vehicles will facilitate rapid charging using a DC fast charger. Mercedes has suggested that it may be possible to add 100 miles of driving range in under 15 minutes of charging. Though Mercedes has not disclosed the battery sizes, one potential option is projected to have a usable capacity of about 85 kWh.

The hybrid model will feature a newly engineered 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, paired with a 27-hp electric motor situated between the gasoline engine and an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The combined output of the system will be 187 hp. A 1.3-kWh lithium-ion battery will be positioned under the driver’s seat. Front-wheel drive will be standard, with all-wheel drive available as an option.
