The 2025 Polestar 3 electric crossover is launching a year later than initially planned but has seen a price reduction of $10,500 from its original 2022 announcement. Priced at $74,800, which includes a $1,400 destination fee, deliveries are set to commence in the second quarter of the current year as per the announcement made by Polestar on Wednesday.

The arrival was delayed due to software issues impacting both the Polestar 3 and the related Volvo EX90. This attractive electric crossover is equipped with dual-motor all-wheel drive, delivering 489 hp and 620 lb-ft of torque, enabling a 0-60 mph acceleration in 5.0 seconds according to Polestar. It comes with a 111-kwh battery pack providing an EPA-estimated range of up to 315 miles. The vehicle supports DC fast charging up to 250 kw, offering a state of charge increase from 10 to 80% in just 30 minutes. When using Polestar’s 11-kw onboard charger at home, a Level 2 240-volt source rated at 48 amps can fully charge the battery in 11 hours.

In its profile, the vehicle resembles an electric hatchback similar to the Cadillac Lyriq or Chevy Blazer EV, both of which faced software issues during their launches.

The Polestar 3 shares the same platform as the Volvo EX90 three-row SUV, although the Swedish brands have started to drift apart in recent months. In February, Volvo decided to cease funding for Polestar, which was once a performance division of Volvo. This essentially allows the Chinese parent company Geely to divest its interest in Volvo or the Polestar electric niche brand. Like many other electric car startups, Polestar has faced challenges in gaining viability since its IPO in 2021.

However, both brands still have significant shared components. Unlike the EX90, the Polestar 3 does not have a third row, resulting in a spacious second row and ample cargo space. During an examination in October 2022, two individuals of 6 feet in height comfortably sat one behind the other. There was limited toe room under the front seats if the front riders preferred the lowest seating position. The fixed glass roof slightly reduced headroom on the sides.

The 2025 model comes well-equipped, featuring a 14.5-inch touchscreen operating on Google’s Android system, heated front and rear seats, a head-up display, and a hands-free tailgate. The standard driver-assist package includes a surround-view camera system, automatic emergency braking in the front and rear, blind-spot monitors, active lane control, and adaptive cruise control capable of resuming from a complete stop.

The base model priced at $74,800 includes the Pilot Pack, encompassing the listed features.

For an additional $80,300, the Plus Pack model adds a premium 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system with “animal welfare wool” upholstery, heated rear seats, and unique 21-inch wheels, while the estimated range remains the same.

Opting for the Performance Pack on either model, available at an extra $6,000, boosts the performance to 517 hp and 671 lb-ft, slightly reducing the range to 279 miles due to the 22-inch forged wheels. This upgrade in performance software decreases the 0-60 mph time to 4.7 seconds, and Polestar states that the chassis tuning is altered.

Consequently, the Polestar 3 Long Range Dual Motor model with Pilot, Plus, and Performance Pack, with a price of $86,300, now sits at $1,000 more than its original starting price 18 months ago.

Initially manufactured in China for one year before transitioning most, if not all, production to South Carolina later in the year, the 2025 Polestar 3 does not qualify for the $7,500 federal EV tax credit, except for leased vehicles.
