After a makeover for the 2024 model year, the 2025 Hyundai Sonata persists with slight modifications, notably the reinstatement of the base SE variant.
The SE begins at $27,800, inclusive of the obligatory $1,150 destination fee, which is actually $250 more than the SEL variant that served as the base configuration for 2024. The SEL now kicks off at $28,900 with destination charges, but Hyundai has also converted the SEL Convenience from an optional package to a distinct trim level for 2025, commencing at a price of $31,950.
The SE, SEL, and SEL Convenience all utilize a 2.5-liter inline-4 engine generating 191 hp and 181 lb-ft of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The sportier N Line version features a 2.5-liter turbo-4 that delivers 290 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque, equipped with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, priced at $36,400. Most Sonata variants are front-wheel drive, though all-wheel drive can be availed on the SEL for an additional $2,000.

The Sonata Hybrid also makes a return in SEL and Limited versions, with price tags of $32,150 and $38,600, respectively. The hybrid powertrain comprises a 2.0-liter inline-4 engine, a 6-speed automatic gearbox featuring an integrated electric motor, along with a 1.62-kwh battery pack. Offered solely with front-wheel drive, the Sonata Hybrid is rated at 192 hp and 47 mpg combined.
A standard 12.3-inch touchscreen is included, and while Hyundai has advanced in achieving wireless smartphone connectivity compatibility with its larger screens, they have only made a modest advancement here. Wireless Android Auto is now standard, but Apple CarPlay still necessitates a cable. Additionally, four USB-C ports (two per seating row) are also standard.
Standard driver-assistance features include automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and active lane keeping assistance.
The Sonata still claims the best warranty in the industry, offering 5-year/60,000-mile basic coverage and 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain protection.
The current-generation Sonata debuted for the 2020 model year but underwent a significant aesthetic update inside and out for the 2024 model year to remain competitive with rivals like the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry.
