Alfa Romeo is gearing up to unveil the redesigned Stelvio compact crossover later this year, as confirmed by its CEO, Santo Ficili, in a recent social media announcement. This news comes with a lot of excitement for loyal fans of the brand and anyone looking to elevate their driving experience. Ficili indicated that customers can expect the new Stelvio to be on the market by 2026, and intriguing options like a hybrid model will be made available as well, thanks to the versatility of the STLA Large platform—an innovative architecture that also supports the newly designed Giulia compact sedan, which is scheduled for release in 2026.

Just a year ago, Alfa Romeo initially teased the new Stelvio and Giulia, hinting at a shift toward electric powertrains. However, as the market evolves and consumer interest in diverse vehicle options grows, the brand seems to be adapting to the realities of consumer preferences. The hesitation surrounding full electric adoption has prompted Alfa Romeo, much like its competitors, to pivot and now plan for a hybrid offering alongside traditional gasoline-powered models.

The STLA Large platform marks a significant advancement for the Italian automaker and is part of Stellantis’ strategy to optimize production across multiple brands. This modular platform has already made its debut in the 2024 Dodge Charger and has also been featured in the 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S. It will support at least eight new vehicles across North America, including an upcoming Jeep Cherokee—currently in testing—which also emphasizes a commitment to a diverse range of vehicles to meet varying customer needs.

Production for the new Stelvio—and likely the Giulia—is expected to take place at the Stellantis facility in Cassino, Italy, where the current models of both vehicles are already being assembled. This plant is not only significant for Alfa Romeo but also serves Maserati, which produces its Grecale crossover there. The connection between the current Stelvio and the Grecale highlights the shared technology and performance roots both brands share.

Additionally, Alfa Romeo has confirmed plans for high-performance Quadrifoglio versions of both the new Stelvio and Giulia. These specialized models are rumored to cater to enthusiasts seeking exhilarating driving experiences, with reports suggesting they could boast an astonishing output of nearly 1,000 horsepower—appealing to those who crave speed and performance without compromise.

Looking ahead, there is anticipated development of a midsize SUV from Alfa Romeo, projected to launch around 2027. This new model is expected to take on strong competitors like the BMW X5, positioning itself as Alfa Romeo’s flagship offering. This depth of planning not only underscores the brand’s commitment to expanding its lineup but also its desire to establish a strong presence in the luxury and performance SUV market.

As we await the arrival of the redesigned Stelvio and Giulia, it’s a pivotal time for Alfa Romeo. The combination of classic Italian craftsmanship and innovative technology promises to deliver vehicles that resonate with drivers who value both style and substance. Whether you’re a long-time fan or considering an Alfa for the first time, the road ahead looks promising with this blend of performance, luxury, and newfound adaptability.
