Chevrolet has finally revealed the pricing details for its Silverado EV electric pickup truck after facing significant delays. The 2024 Chevy Silverado EV RST First Edition sits at the top of the lineup with a price tag of $96,495, which includes a destination fee of $1,995. This information was announced by Chevy on Wednesday. Featuring 24-inch wheels, this model boasts an impressive 440-mile range, an increase of 40 miles compared to the details provided in October 2023.

Moreover, the current price is approximately $9,000 lower than the initial announcement.

The enhanced range is made possible by a substantial battery pack, rumored to be either 200 or 205 kWh, though GM has not confirmed the exact size. Sharing its powertrain with the GMC Hummer EV, the Silverado EV RST First Edition is equipped with a dual-motor system that delivers 754 hp and 785 lb-ft of torque in its highest-output setting known as Wide Open Watts (WOW). With this configuration, GM estimates a 0-60 mph acceleration time of less than 4.5 seconds. The RST First Edition also features rear-wheel steering, adaptive dampers, air suspension, a 6-way power tailgate, and a mid-gate that can flatten the second-row seats to extend the bed length. With a towing capacity of up to 10,000 pounds and a payload of 1,300 pounds, it offers impressive functionality.

Notable features include a 17.0-inch touchscreen, an 11.0-inch gauge cluster, a 14.0-inch head-up display, the Super Cruise hands-free highway driving system, a fixed glass roof, and a comprehensive set of driver-assist safety technologies. For those who converted their reservations into purchases, RST First Edition reservation holders will benefit from bidirectional charging as an added feature.

According to a statement from Chevy, deliveries are expected to commence “mid-year”.

The introduction of the Silverado EV RST model comes after the debut of the WT base model, which was delayed compared to the initial expectations. Initially scheduled for release in the last quarter of 2023, Chevy faced delays due to a series of challenges.

In January, GM altered its course towards an all-electric future by reintroducing plug-in hybrids (PHEV) to its product lineup. The delays in the Silverado EV production were attributed to the retooling of the Factory Zero EV plant previously known as Detroit-Hamtramck and the implementation of “engineering enhancements aimed at improving the profitability of our products,” as stated by a GM representative to Green Car Reports in October of the previous year.

GM clarified that the delays in the Silverado EV production were not related to the United Auto Workers strike that had temporarily halted production at Detroit’s major automakers. Other contributing factors included software issues and assembly challenges with the Ultium battery modules, which form the foundation of GM’s current and forthcoming electric vehicle lineup.

Until recently, reservations were accepted for the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV, but deliveries of the base WT model were predominantly restricted to fleet orders. Similar to Ford’s strategy with the F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck, higher-tier versions were made available, while the base Lightning in 2022 was priced below $50,000. However, the landscape has evolved significantly in the past two years, with the Silverado EV WT still priced around $80,000, leaving a more affordable model in the distant or undisclosed future.

Changes in pricing for the Rivian R1T and the impending release of the Tesla Cybertruck have further complicated the delayed launch schedule of the Silverado EV. Ram is also set to unveil its 2025 Ram 1500 REV electric pickup truck later this year.
